Commissions

Painted Axe takes great pride in its commission work. Whether you are a professional artist lookig to honor your heritage or a soon-to-be bride looking for a special wedding gift, Painted Axe promises to use all our talents, resources and imagination to bring your visions to reality.

John Lee Hooker Jr., 2004 Grammy nominee and W.C. Handy award winning blues artist, sought custom work that was time-period-sensitive and meet his wishes to honor several of his musical influences. Extensive research on Detroit's African American entertainment district and fashion during the 1920s was completed. Period images of Detroit also were tracked down and acquired. Titled "Detroit Blues," the acoustic guitar features an inked depiction of the Koppin Theatre – one of Detroit's most important African American entertainment venues during the 1920s – with likenesses of BB King, John Lee Hooker, Bessie Smith, Ray Charles and Robert Johnson standing beneath the marquee.

Beyond working artists, we also have individuals seeking custom projects, including an autogragh collector from Lafayette, LA to a bride to be from Chicago.

Our turn around time for a guitar - using the existing body color - with modest artwork is about four (4) weeks.

Recently, Painted Axe began customizing Guitar Hero Les Paul faceplates. More afforable and timely, we estimate about a two-week turnaround for a customized faceplate.
