John Lee Hooker Jr., 2004 Grammy nominee and W.C. Handy award winning blues artist, sought custom work that was time-period sensitive and meet his wishes to honor several of his musical influences. Extensive research on Detroit's African American entertainment district and fashion during the 1920s was completed. Period images of Detroit also were tracked down and acquired. Titled "Detroit Blues," the acoustic guitar features an inked depiction of the Koppin Theatre – one of Detroit's most important African American entertainment venues during the 1920s – with likenesses of BB King, John Lee Hooker, Bessie Smith, Ray Charles and Robert Johnson standing beneath the marquee.
